Venerable tech company Yahoo is the latest media outlet to launch its own dedicated eSports reporting site, Yahoo eSports, in a bid to attract an audience that appreciates coverage of competitive games played at a professional level.

The new eSports site falls under the demense of Yahoo's Sports Media group, bringing the move in line with sports media outlet ESPN's recent decision to launch its own dedicated eSports zone.

"We’re approaching our coverage of eSports with the same tenacity and professionalism we always have with Yahoo Sports, News and Finance,” stated Yahoo Sports Media VP Bob Condor in a press release announcing the launch.

This foreshadows a budding trend among sports reporting outlets to spin up eSports-focused hubs, and suggests that eSports is indeed shaping up to rival plain ol' sports in terms of popularity.

For now, Yahoo intends to focus its eSports coverage on the following games: League of LegendsDota 2Heroes of the StormCounter-Strike: Global Offensive and Capcom's recently-released Street Fighter V.

The media firm intends to publish a mix of written and video content that encompasses match commentary, stat tracking and focused reporting, while also syndicating coverage deemed relevant from outlets like Polygon and GameSpot.
