Newsbrief: Microsoft is opening up its online ecosystem by supporting cross-network play across all networks and platforms.
Writing on Xbox Wire, Chris Charla, director of ID@Xbox, revealed developers will now be able to utilize cross-network capabilities, meaning players on Xbox One and Windows 10 could soon be playing with or against players on different console and PC networks.
Even if devs choose to implement the feature, Xbox Live users will still be able to close ranks and search specifically for players on the same network.
Psyonix's Rocket League, which has made $70 million across all platforms, will be the first game to support the feature, enabling cross-network play between Xbox One and PC players, with an open invitation for other networks to participate as well.
