Blizzard has released a new major patch for Warcraft III more than 15 years after the popular strategy title first hit shelves.

The update is playable on the Public Test Realms, and brings widescreen support, 24-player game lobbies, revised and expanded team colors, and some notable hero balance changes.

It comes as Blizzard prepares to host the first ever Warcraft III Invitational tournament, which will see some of the game's best players showcase their talents across a slew of special events.

This isn't the first time the studio has taught an old dog new tricks, having also released updates for other aging classics like Diablo II and StarCraft

The full patch notes are available on Battle.net, while those interested in the invitational can catch all the action on Twitch when things kick off on February 27.
