Smartwatch games are looking a little bit hotter today, as Runeblade developer Everyware Games has picked up $2.25m (actually, 2 million euros) in funding, VentureBeat reports.

The company's game followed on the heels of the Apple Watch launch, and was enough to impress Silicon Valley insider Om Malik, whose venture firm True Ventures led the funding round.

"The Everywear team’s deep expertise in all generations of gaming gives them an unfair advantage in understanding the ever-changing needs of gaming on different platforms," Malik wrote, on True Ventures' blog.

The company was co-founded by former Remedy EVP Aki Järvilehto, Digital Chocolate CTO Mika Tammenkoski, and Rovio's Markus Tuppurainen.

"Up next, more games, including casual games that leverage the complete power of the Apple Watch platform for now, and other platforms in the future," Malik promises.

As for the Apple Watch itself, there's been a tremendous amount of debate over its popularity with consumers; here's some recent data from the Wall Street Journal, which reports the watch is selling briskly for a new Apple product.
