After a decade and a half of support, Jagex is looking to spice up its massively multiplayer online game RuneScape by bringing both the modern and old school versions of its historic game to mobile devices.
But rather than exist as a separate and isolated version of the game, the upcoming duo of mobile MMORPGs are set to offer cross-platform play between the smartphone and computer-based versions of RuneScape.
Both platforms will share logins and servers, with a new mobile interface itself being the only noticeable difference between the two.
All in all, two of the three playable versions of the game are set for a mobile release. Old School RuneScape, the version the reflects the game as it was in 2007, is due out on mobile this coming winter while the Modern RuneScape variant is expected in 2018.
However RuneScape Classic, the immortalized and limited-access version of the game’s 2001 release, isn't getting a mobile makeover and is set to remain a PC-exclusive for the foreseeable future.
