Newsbrief: Jagex CEO Mark Gerhard has published an open letter announcing his decision to depart from the RuneScape developer at the end of the year. Gerhard has spent seven years working at Jagex, and five years leading the company after being appointed CEO in 2009. He has not explained his motivation for leaving Jagex, or who he expects to step up and fill his shoes. While the company has developed and published a broad catalog of titles, it is best known for operating its fantasy MMORPG RuneScape in some form or another since 2001. Gerhard elucidated Jagex's struggle to keep the long-running game engaging for diehard fans and approachable for newcomers in an interview with Gamasutra last year.
