According to a report from MCV, recent digital releases Volume (from Mike Bithell) and The Chinese Room's Everybody's Gone to the Rapture would have hit the UK overall top-10 chart -- if only digital games were included.

In fact, the site reports, Everybody’s Gone To The Rapture would have been the UK number-one for the week of its release -- but missed out since it was only available digitally.

Indies polled by MCV call on publishers to share digital sales data. Steam Spy offers reliable if potentially inaccurate Steam rankings, but console sales are much murkier. Two years ago, Gamasutra elected to stop covering the monthly NPD sales reports, as they do not include digital download data -- clearly, a significant source of game sales.
