Nintendo bringing Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem to mobile

Nintendo will bring two of its most popular franchises, Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem, to smart devices this fall.

Unlike Miitomo, a social experience built around Mii characters, Nintendo's next mobile offerings will be "pure gaming applications."

Nintendo shared more details, explaining its Fire Emblem app will "offer the great value" of a strategy RPG, but with an emphasis on accessibility, as opposed to more challenging franchise entries on Nintendo's dedicated systems.

The company's Animal Crossing app will be an altogether different experience, and has been designed to connect "with the world of Animal Crossing for dedicated gaming systems." 

"Both of these are pure game applications. Compared to Miitomo, they have more prominent game elements, and the game content will tie closely into Nintendo’s dedicated games business," Nintendo stated. 

"Nintendo will provide more details about these applications closer to their launch period, and aims to have multiple types of apps that appeal to different audiences and different groups of players."

Nintendo's expanding mobile line-up is the result of a partnership it struck with DeNA in 2015. 

Miitomo was the first of five smartphone apps Nintendo agreed to create alongside the mobile publisher, and, since launching in March, has surpassed 10 million users worldwide.
