Now that Microsoft owns Minecraft, it announced today that the massively popular game will be opened up to allow for cross-platform multiplayer mine crafting. Yes, that includes VR platforms too.

While Minecraft players have been able to pay for their own private servers (called Realms) to host persistent worlds for some time, those worlds have always limited access to people playing on the same platform they were built on.

But today at Microsoft's E3 showcase Oculus' John Carmack took the stage to talk about Minecraft running on Gear VR -- and announce that VR and non-VR Minecraft players could now play togther when Minecraft servers go cross-platform.

Of course, cross-platform play has been a major theme of Microsoft's E3 presence this year -- earlier today the company announced that a number of Xbox games would be playable on Windows 10 under its new Play Anywhere initiative
