Swedish game dev Mojang seems to have worked with parent company Microsoft to update Minecraft on Windows 10 with a new feature that lets players export chunks of their world as 3D models.
This sort of export has been possible via unofficial third-party tools for some time, but Microsoft's implementation (via its Remix 3D tool) is neat because it will presumably be more approachable and easier to use for players looking to show off their virtual design skills.
There appear to be some limitations to this new 3D export functionality, most notably that players are reportedly limited to exporting chunks no larger than 32 x 100 x 32 blocks.
However, when those models are uploaded to Remix 3D, they can be shared, edited by other people, and rendered out in augmented reality or actual reality (via 3D printing services).
