Free-to-play mobile brawler, Marvel Contest of Champions, has become Marvel's highest grossing game of all time, across every platform.

Developed by mobile and social game outfit, Kabam, Contest of Champions launched in December 2014 and is currently generating over $25 million per month.

That figure was confirmed by Kabam COO, Kent Wakeford, who in an interview with GamesBeat revealed this July was the game's highest revenue month of all time.

Despite the success of Contest of Champions in the West, Wakeford admits it's struggling to maintain momentum in the East -- despite a promising start that saw it generate 2.5 million installs.

Wakeford says those difficulties are the result of contrasting gameplay expectations from players on separate sides of the globe.

"Unfortunately, gameplay in China is radically different than in the west. We’ve learned a lot of lessons. I don’t think we had the balance of the game the way that we thought," he explains.

"The retention didn’t stack up the way we wanted. Performance of the game wasn’t exactly where we wanted it to be. But now we know, and we have the infrastructure to publish games into China on iOS."
