Riot Games' hugely competitive MOBA, League of Legends, is still growing in popularity, and now attracts over 100 million active players each month.

Last time we heard, the game was pulling in around 67 million monthly active players. That was in January 2014, meaning League's active monthly user base has grown by around 33 percent in just under three years.

The new figure comes from Polygon's interview with studio co-founders Marc Merrill and Brandon Beck, in which the pair reveal they're so reluctant to talk numbers and sales figures because "those things don't even feel real."

"The coolest thing is actually when we’re at the live events and get to meet fans face to face. Only then does it start to feel real. Otherwise, they’re just numbers on a screen all over the world," adds Beck.

The rest of Polygon's interview makes for an interesting read, and charts Riot's evolution from a small-time studio into a global player with over 1000 employees.
