Kongregate, known for its expansive library of mobile and browser-based games, is broadening its publishing horizons to release indie games for PC via Steam.

The publisher's expansion into Steam could potentially benefit developers who have worked with Kongregate in the past or are interested in doing so in the future. The company says the move will allow it to both support more indie studios and help current games reach more players across multiple platforms.

Kongregate has also released an updated version of their software development kit that can share player progress across multiple platforms and also allows developers to view metrics and statistics with data from mobile, web, and Steam releases.

The Gentlebros-developed Slashy Hero is the first Kongregate game to appear on Steam and is already set up to share game progress between mobile and Steam.

The fantasy card game Spellstone is the only other game currently announced for a Steam release, but more Kongregate titles are expected to follow in the future.
