Konami reported a company-wide increase in profits and revenue during its most recent financial quarter, and its video game business saw gains thanks to strong continuing sales of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes and a slew of mobile titles. The company said that it recorded "strong repeat sales" for its most recent Metal Gear game worldwide, alongside strong domestic sales of its recently-released soccer game World Soccer Winning Eleven 2014: Aoki Samurai no Chousen and titles in its Dragon Collection and World Soccer Collection mobile game franchises. Let's look at the numbers: For the fiscal quarter ended June 30, 2014, Konami's Digital Entertainment business reported revenues of 20.4 billion yen (~$199 million USD), up very slightly year-over-year from 20 billion yen ($195 million), and operating income of 3.4 billion yen (~$33 million), roughly double the 1.7 billion yen ($16 million) in operating income it reported for the same quarter a year prior. Konami as a whole reported revenues of 48.6 billion yen (~$474 million), up from 45.6 billion yen ($445 million) year-over-year, and profits of 3.2 billion yen ($32 million), more than double the 1.5 billion yen ($15 million) in operating income the company reported for the same quarter last year. The lion's share of that bump in profits came from continuing sales of products in its Digital Entertainment division, including Ground Zeroes. Looking ahead, Konami predicts it will generate roughly 220 billion yen ($2.1 billion) in revenue throughout the current fiscal year, which ends in March 2015. The company expects to generate 12 billion yen ($117 million) in profits during the same time period. A significant portion of those profits are expected to come from the company's video game business as Konami prepares for the Japanese launch of games like Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 and Silent Scope: Bone-Eater, as well as the worldwide release of Pro Evolution Soccer 2015 later this year. It's worth noting that part of the company's plans for the coming year include developing mobile games for new Asian markets, presumably including the rapidly-growing Chinese mobile market.
