Seattle-based game studio Z2, which develops mobile games games like Metalstorm and Battle Nations, has laid off an undisclosed amount of marketing and support staff in the last few days.
Mobile publisher King acquired Z2 back in early 2015, and in turn was bought by Activision Blizzard later that year. A King representative referred us to a statement issued to Geekwire in response to a query about the layoffs, which state that the layoffs are result of integrating the studio “into our business and aligning it with our strategic goals.”
The statement confirms that both support and marketing staff have been laid off from the company. It would appear King intends to continue relying on Z2 as a game developer, but will be moving its marketing and player support functions to elsewhere in the company.
If you or someone you know has been affected in these layoffs, you can email Gamasutra to tell your story confidentially.
