Blizzard has confirmed that Josh Mosqueira has left his role as Diablo III’s game director after three years at the helm.

Mosqueira agreed to steer the Diablo ship in 2013 following the departure of Jay Wilson, promising to address issues with the action RPG's in-game economy and item drops.

Wilson also recently ended his decade-long spell with the World of Warcraft and Overwatch developer, expressing a desire to step away from the games industry for good to pursue a career in writing.

In an email sent to Polygon, Blizzard explained that with Diablo III "in a good place” Mosquera felt it was the right time to step down.

"Josh felt that now was a good time to pursue other opportunities with minimal impact to the team," reads the email. "We'll be filling the director role either from within Blizzard or externally."
