Monthly subscription and indie game distribution service IndieBox has partnered with GameStop to sell physical copies of select indie games both in-store and online.

While the steelbook case each game is sold in is a thing of beauty, what’s really notable here is the partnership between the two companies that made the release possible, and the possibility the promotion has to expand the audience for indie games.

For many participating games, this promotion is the first time they've been sold outside of digital marketplaces.

The limited-release set is called the GameTrust Collection, named for GameStop’s publishing initiative GameTrust that partners directly with developers to sell their games. The ten games in the collection are as follows:

  • Nuclear Throne

  • Rogue Legacy

  • Axiom Verge

  • Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition

  • Punch Club

  • Jotun: Valhalla Edition

  • Awesomenauts

  • Chariot

  • Stories: The Path of Destinies

  • Thomas Was Alone

The steelbooks will be sold in limited quantities online and in 1,200 GameStop stores across the US, starting in mid November. So far, only the 10 games have been announced with no word on if there will be another series in the future.
