Newsbrief: HTC's very own virtual reality marketplace, the Viveport, has launched globally following a private developer beta.
Viveport initially launched in China earlier this year, and has now been made available in over 30 countries.
Although Viveport is technically in direct competition with Steam, HTC has done its best to paint the nascent storefront as an alternative retail solution for those markets without a strong Steam userbase.
"The HTC store is more of an option for people who can’t use Steam," explained HTC's VR specialist Shen Ye during a live Q&A earlier this year.
"If you take a look at China, for example, where we had the dev conference, Steam doesn’t really have that much user base there. So we're trying to fill in the gap so that anyone who gets hold of a Vive get the possibility to go and download content."
