Samsung has sold over 300,000 of its Oculus-powered Gear VR virtual reality headsets across Europe since the start of the year.

The news comes shortly after Oculus revealed the Gear VR had surpassed 1 million active users.

It's important to note that Samsung has being running a number of Gear VR promotions tied into the launch and sale of its flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge.

Earlier this year, the manufacturer handed out free headsets to anyone who pre-ordered the device in the U.S. and UK, and now the company is giving Galaxy S7 owners the ability to purchase a Gear VR for a "special price."

By connecting the Gear VR with its smartphones, Samsung says it's "encouraging broader VR adoption so that more people can experience this new technology for themselves."
