The impromptu Harvey Relief Done Quick charity speedrunning event hosted by Games Done Quick over the weekend has raised $227,876 for the Houston food bank.
The organizers behind Games Done Quick pitched the event on Twitter in response to the hurricane that devastated parts of Texas last week. Over the span of a couple of days, the group assembled speedrunners and drafted donation incentives to fill out a weekend's worth of programming for the event.
In its first twelve hours alone, Harvey Relief Done Quick raised $52,000 before closing out the weekend with $227,876 raised.
Games Done Quick typically hosts two events a year, Summer Games Done Quick and Awesome Games Done Quick, to raise funds for charity. The organization’s last week-long event, SGDQ, raised $1.76M for Doctors Without Borders. The next planned marathon, AGDQ, is scheduled for January 7-14 and will benefit the Prevent Cancer Foundation.
