Cel-shaded adventure title Rime has resurfaced with a new publisher and tentative release date.

The game will now be published by fledgling outfit Greybox -- which has only previously backed two titles, Dreadnought and Grey Goo -- and will hit shelves in 2017.

The one-time PlayStation 4 exclusive was first unveiled in 2013, but Spanish developer Tequila Works has since bought back the rights to the title, potentially paving the way for a multi-platform release.

Tequila never revealed why it reacquired the rights to Rime, while Sony also kept quiet, only offering a brief statement to explain it was "no longer proprietary of the IP, nor the publisher of the game."

A definitive release date and platform support information will be confirmed at the start of 2017.
