Fire Emblem has come back from the brink, with Nintendo announcing that the latest entry in the series, Fire Emblem Fates, sold 400,000 copies in the U.S. in just over a week.
That figure includes digital downloads and physical sales, and comes from data tracking outfit, The NPD Group.
Fates, which is split into two versions -- Conquest and Birthright, each featuring different characters, stories, and maps -- outsold its predecessor, Fire Emblem Awakening, over its three-day launch period by a factor of five.
During those three days Fates sold 300,000 copies in North America, breaking records and breathing new life into a series that was close to being cancelled.
"The [Fire Emblem] games took two top-10 spots on the best-sellers list [by SKU] from the NPD Group, which tracks U.S. video game sales,” read a Nintendo statement, picked up by VentureBeat.
"This far outpaces 2013’s Fire Emblem Awakening game, the series’ previous record-holder in the United States, and is a testament to both the longstanding popularity and rapidly growing fan base of the franchise.”
Nintendo is supplementing Fates with DLC options including map packs and an additional third scenario.
