Newsbrief: In a statement posted to its website, EA announced the closure of Dawngate, its game in the white-hot MOBA genre, which has been in beta for 18 months. Group general manager Matt Bromberg wrote that the company decided to close the game because EA was "not seeing the progress we’d hoped for" during the beta. League of Legends, the genre leader, is one of the hottest PC games around, period, and Valve's Dota 2 and Hi-Rez Studios' Smite are also strong challengers. The game will continue to operate for 90 days before shutting down; all in-game purchases made at any point during its beta will be refunded to players. After rumors of an EA-developed MOBA surfaced in 2012, the game opened up for beta signups last spring.
