The L.A. Times is reporting that Disney has laid off roughly 250 people from its Glendale-based consumer products and interactive media unit, reducing the division's total workforce by 5 percent.

The layoffs have affected an unspecified number of game devs, including those working on the recently canned mobile RPG, Marvel: Avengers Alliance

The news comes not long after Disney revealed a dramatic change in tack regarding its video game operations, with the media giant leaving the world of console publishing and development behind back in May.

It was a decision that resulted in the cancelation of long-running toys-to-life franchise, Disney Infinity, which will be switched off early next year

Although it won't be creating any console games in-house, Disney will continue to publish mobile titles, and is willing to license out its properties to interested parties, just as it did with DICE for Star Wars: Battlefront.
