Newsbrief: Colossal Order's city-building game Cities: Skylines has sold over a quarter of a million copies in the 24 hours following its launch, making it the fastest-selling Paradox Interactive game to date.

The title has already gained a bit of positive press coverage as a more open, mod-friendly SimCity competitor, and surpassing 250,000 copies sold in 24 hours suggests there's strong market demand for such a game.

As a point of rough comparison, the standalone zombie survival game DayZ sold roughly 146,000 copies in its first day on the market, while the latest SimCity game sold over 1.1 million units in the two weeks following its 2013 launch.
