Brass Lion Entertainment has laid off at least 13 employees after choosing to "realign" its workforce.

"Brass Lion Entertainment has made the difficult decision to reduce our team size as we realign our team around the strategy for the action-RPG we have in development," reads a statement posted on Linkedin.

"Unfortunately, that means that we aren't able to keep on several talented developers who have contributed greatly to our project and studio culture."

The company listed the names of 13 individuals impacted by the layoffs—although it's unclear whether those people represent the full extent of the cuts.

Brass Lion has encouraged other employers to consider its former staffers for any open positions.

The studio said it remains committed to its upcoming (currently unnamed) project, which is simply billed as an "action-RPG video game title for consoles and PC."

Brass Lion opened its doors in 2019 to create original universes centred on Black and Brown characters, cultures, and stories.

"Our goal is to diversify the video game industry, one fictional universe at a time, and expand them into other forms of entertainment, such as film, TV, comics, and podcasts," said co-founder, Manveer Heir, at the time.

"We want to let all players be delighted by our franchises, no matter what their background and preferred medium is."
