Another round of layoffs at Gree - this time voluntary

Japanese mobile games company Gree has been laying off staff all over the shop this year, with its studios in the UK, China, and the U.S. affected. Now the company has revealed that its Japanese headquarters is being affected too. Due to the company's latest financial quarter being weaker than hoped, Gree is now offering voluntary retirement to around 200 of its employees, as reported by industry consultant Serkan Toto. That's around 11 percent of Gree's total workforce, Toto notes. The aim is to boost profitability and make the Gree machine leaner, as was the case with the other rounds of layoffs. Notably, Japanese newspaper Nikkei reported earlier this week that Gree is also closing down its offices in Osaka. Around 30 people working there have been asked to either retire, or move to Gree's Tokyo headquarters.
