Newsbrief: Turbine plans to stop charging subscription fees for its preposterously long-lived MMORPGs Asheron's Call and Asheron's Call 2 this summer, though the company will continue to charge a one-time $10 activation fee to new/lapsed players for the foreseeable future. The news comes courtesy of a post from a Turbine employee on the Asheron's Call forum, which also details Turbine's intent to cut back on support for both Asheron's Call games and offer improved tools for players to host their own servers by the end of the year. Asheron's Call has been operating continuously since its launch in 1999, while the sequel only lasted three years before being shut down in 2005 and then quietly relaunched by Turbine in 2012.
